Luis Suarez passes Italian exam but doubts emerge over Juventus transfer

Luis Suarez has passed his Italian language exam, which is crucial to earning a passport for that country.

It comes amid growing speculation over the Uruguay international's future, with Juventus in the race.

Barcelona are set to undergo a major squad revamp with the clock ticking in the transfer window.

Ronald Koeman has told as many as 12 players they are free to leave with La Liga rules stating clubs must sell before signing anyone.

The former Netherlands manager has several players on his wish list, including Lyon striker Memphis Depay and Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

And he has also told Suarez that his services are no longer required at the Nou Camp.

Juventus have made an approach for the 33-year-old and had been the frontrunners for his signature.

But a late move from Atletico Madrid seemed to have scupper a move, with the prospect of continuing to live in Spain thought to have turned Suarez's head.

However, a transfer to Juve took a step forward this week when the ex-Liverpool forward passed a language exam, report Gazzetta dello Sport via Bleacher Report.

To apply for an Italian passport, the exam must be passed.

But Suarez appears to be back at square one after the latest update from transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

According to the Sky Sports Italia reporter, Juve will not pursue a move for the South American.

Instead, they are wrapping up a deal for Edin Dzeko from Roma, who has been one of Andrea Pirlo's top targets.

He tweeted : "Juventus are at final stages to complete Dzeko deal as new striker.

"Luis Suarez will have his Italian passport but talks are *not* ongoing with Juve. Dzeko is gonna join on next days.

"Barca will consider other bids on following days because Suarez is still out from #FCB plans."

With Juve out of the race it would seem Atletico are left in the clear to land the former Ajax striker.

However, nothing has been agreed with the Wanda Metropolitano outfit and it remains to be seen where Suarez will be by the end of the transfer window.
