Luis Suarez not included in Barcelona's 'untouchables' with club ready to accept Ajax bid

Luis Suarez may have played his last game for Barcelona as speculation grows that he could be set to join his former club Ajax.

The Uruguayan forward is Barca's third all-time top scorer with a superb 198 goals in the six seasons he has been at the Nou Camp since joining from Liverpool in 2014.

He has recently struggled with injury problems, however, and at the age of 33 is arguably past his best.

President Josep Bartomeu admitted on Tuesday that there would be a major overhaul this summer following the club's dismal season, which culminated in the embarrassing 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final last week.

He listed just seven players who were safe from being sold: Lionel Messi, Ter Stegen, Clement Lenglet, Nelson Semedo, Frenkie De Jong, Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele.

Suarez was a notable absentee, and well-respected Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano believes he could well be on his way out of the exit door.

"Keep an eye on Luis Suarez situation," he tweeted. "He has not been mentioned by the president Bartomeu between the “untouchables”, Barça would be ready to sell him if they’ll receive an “important bid”. Ajax have contacted his agent and will try to get him back. Many clubs to follow."

Suarez made his name at Ajax when he represented the Dutch club between 2007-11, scoring 111 goals and eventually earning a move to Liverpool, and he may well fancy another spell in the Eredivisie.

On Barcelona 's more senior players, Bartomeu added: "The time for some players at Barcelona has come to an end. There will be replacements and new leaders who will take the team forward.

"I want to thank the players for making us the best club in the world, but it's time for some of those players to go. Some senior players will be sold, but they will be acknowledged with a lot of gratitude and appreciation."
