Luis Robert's 3-run homer in the 10th gives the White Sox a 5-2 win over the Royals

CHICAGO _ Luis Robert hit a three-run homer in the 10th inning as the Chicago White Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 5-2 on Sunday at Guaranteed Rate Field.

It was the second walk-off win of the series for the Sox. Yasmani Grandal homered in the ninth Friday.

Jarrod Dyson pinch-ran for Grandal as the runner at second to begin Sunday's 10th inning. The Royals intentionally walked Jose Abreu, putting runners at first and second for James McCann.

Tyler Zuber struck out McCann, but Robert followed with the game-winning homer.

The Sox (21-13) took two of three in the series and moved back into a first-place tie in the American League Central with the Cleveland Indians.

Sox pitcher Dane Dunning was spectacular in his second big-league start. The right-hander pitched five no-hit innings with seven strikeouts and one walk. He exited after reaching his pitch count.

The Royals broke up the bid for the combined no-hitter with one out in the sixth when Cam Gallagher doubled to left-center off Jimmy Cordero.

Dunning has 14 strikeouts in two outings. He allowed three runs on five hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in 4? innings Aug. 19 in a no-decision against the Detroit Tigers in his major-league debut.

He was optioned to the Schaumburg training facility the next day and recalled Sunday.

The Sox gave him an early lead when Nick Madrigal singled in a run in the second. McCann's RBI double in the third made it 2-0.

Sox manager Rick Renteria indicated Saturday that Dunning would have a similar pitch count to his big-league debut. He threw 73 pitches against the Tigers and 79 Sunday.

Five days after Lucas Giolito threw the 19th no-hitter in Sox history, Gallagher ended the Sox pitching staff's attempt at another no-hitter with his double in the sixth. Whit Merrifield followed with an RBI single, cutting the Sox lead to 2-1.

Merrifield tied the game in the eighth with a solo homer off Steve Cishek.

Robert's homer was his ninth of the season.

Before the game, the Sox placed pitcher Gio Gonzalez on the 10-day injured list with a right groin strain.

Gonzalez's IL stint is retroactive to Thursday. He last pitched Aug. 22, earning his first win for the Sox with 3? scoreless relief innings against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. He is 1-1 with a 5.11 ERA and 26 strikeouts in six games (four starts) this season.
