Luis Perdomo, at least according to video in the public domain, did not throw a punch in Wednesday's melee. He missed with the glove whirled at Nolan Arenado's head. The fastball that whizzed behind Arenado's back, however, was deemed intentional by Major League Baseball and drew a five-game suspension for the Padres' 24-year-old pitcher.
The Rockies' third baseman also drew a five-game suspension for charging the mound. Rockies outfielder Gerardo Parra received a four-game suspension and reliever Buddy Baumann _ recently optioned to Triple-A El Paso _ was banned for one game.
Perdomo, Arenado, Parra and Baumann also received undisclosed fines, as did Padres catcher A.J. Ellis, Padres shortstop Freddy Galvis and Rockies pitcher German Marquez.
Unless appealed, Perdomo will begin serving his suspension immediately. Arenado and Parra planned to appeal their bans and were in the lineup on Friday night in Denver against the Washington Nationals.
Perdomo's ban will force the Padres to make alternate plans to cover his scheduled start on Monday against the Dodgers. Right-hander Jordan Lyles and left-hander Robbie Erlin _ both working in long relief _ are major league options, while right-hander Walker Lockett _ who is on the 40-man roster _ is scheduled to pitch on Monday for Triple-A El Paso.
Baumann's suspension will be effective upon his return to San Diego.
