Luis Enrique's dressing room conduct highlights Graham Potter's Chelsea mistake

Just days after Graham Potter was sacked, Chelsea have already held talks with his potential successor as ex-Barcelona boss Luis Enrique is touted with the job.

The Spaniard is thought to have flown into London to hold talks over taking over the reins at Stamford Bridge, less than five months after he resigned from his post as the Spain national team boss. Enrique boasts an incredible CV, having won the treble with Barcelona back in 2015 by playing an attractive, attacking brand of football.

With that being said, some of Enrique's detractors may argue that his success was largely down to the fact the Blaugrana could call upon a forward trio that consisted of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez.

What is undeniable about Enrique's tenure at the Camp Nou is that the Barcelona players thought incredibly highly of him. So much so, that seven-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi actually publicly admitted he pleaded with Enrique to stay at the club.

"We had a spectacular relationship until the last day when he decided to leave and we told him to stay, not to go, that we were doing well," Messi said.

The Argentine's comments add further weight to the theory that Enrique knows how to hold court in a high-profile dressing room. The 52-year-old has previously discussed his approach when it comes to the human aspect of being a manager and dealing with players.

"I like to be close to the players and listen to what they've got to say and feel," Enrique explained. "Then I make decisions from a coach's point of view, thinking about what's best for the team."

All the signs point to Enrique have a far better grasp of the Chelsea dressing room than Potter ever did during his own ill-fated reign that lasted just seven months.

Since his sacking, a plethora of reports have emerged that Potter failed to command authority within the Chelsea ranks and some senior players viewed the former Brighton boss as a 'yes man' for those above him in the Blues hierarchy.

According to the Athletic, some Chelsea stars believed that Potter was heavily influenced by Boehly and co-owner Behdad Eghbali in regard to things like tactics and the way the team lined up.

What is undeniably a more damning reflection of Potter's reign are the rumours that some members of the playing staff stooped as low as name-calling, referring to their then-manager as "Harry" and "Hogwarts" in reference to the main character from the Harry Potter series.

It seems unlikely that a similar situation would occur if Enrique was to be at the helm, judging by his track record.
