Luis Diaz a 'loyal' fan of Barcelona and dreams of move, reveals Liverpool star's father

Luis Diaz's father has revealed his son is a "loyal Barcelona fan" who dreams of playing for the Spanish giants.

The Liverpool star has been a hit at Anfield since he arrived from Porto in January 2022, even if his first full season at the club was hampered by a knee injury that kept him out for close to six months.

Diaz has been more regularly involved this time, making eight Premier League starts and scoring four goals across all competitions for Liverpool. That tally should be a higher one too, with Diaz's strike against Tottenham in September ruled out after a major VAR error.

It has been an emotional period for the 26-year-old, who was in tears after scoring twice for Colombia in a win over Brazil. Diaz's father was in the stands, watching his son for the first time since kidnappers released him after he was held hostage for almost two weeks.

Luis Manuel Diaz spoke to local media at the match and, when asked about rumours of his son attracting interest from Barcelona, did little to play down those reports.

“Truth is that I know very little about Barcelona at the moment," he told Win Sports.

"It is true that Luis is a loyal Barcelona fan and it would be his dream to go there. So far I would like to thank Porto and Liverpool for the way they welcomed him and received him.

“Luis is a player who finds it easy to win over because of the way he is, because of his humility, his work, his dedication, he is a very disciplined player, thank God.

"There would be no problem if Luis came to Barcelona because it is a top team and one of the best in the world.”
