Lucy Spraggan is unrecognisable after 11 months sober

Singer Lucy Spraggan has been hailed an 'inspiration' after speaking out about being 11 months sober.

Lucy, who shot to fame on the X Factor in 2012, is fighting fit after quitting the booze and says she's never felt as 'alive and awake.'

She says she ditched alcohol last year after having enough of 'burying her problems' and hiding behind the 'false confidence' that drinking gave her.

Lucy, who has penned the song Sober about her experience on her new album Choices, has spoken frankly to fans in a message shared on social media, with a photo of her looking trim in a suit.

"Today I am 11 months sober," the 28-year-old musician from Stockport wrote.

"11 months ago I had no idea what kind of an impact giving up alcohol would have on my life but I knew I'd had enough of burying my problems, hiding behind the false confidence that drinking gave me and spending so much of my life just incredibly sad."

Addressing her problem with drink she explained: "I didn't drink every day, I didn't physically depend on alcohol, I couldn't think of anything worse than drinking in the morning and I used to think that mean I didn't have a problem.

"I didn't fit the mould of what a person with an alcohol problem looked like.

"I was a self-described 'life of the party' which meant I needed to be having MY kind of fun, everything had to be 100mph.

"I'd be pushy if you weren't keeping up with me and I was always the last one to bed. Or not sometimes.

"But I always ended up in this miserable trance either at the end of the night or for days after."

Lucy admits she has issues with moderation.

"I either have the whole cake or no cake at all," she told fans.

But she's 'learned what discipline means' and is looking towards turning 29 and 12 months sober next month.

"I know now that it wouldn't just be the one cheeky Guinness so for me it's none at all," she wrote.

"I have never felt as alive and awake as I do right now," says Lucy, who is is sporting a six pack after hitting the gym and 'pushing her body to do incredible things.'

"You are fierce, congrats on 11 months," applauded one fan.

"Super proud of you!! An inspiration to many people," wrote another.

And another said: "Congrats...and looking really good for it too! X"

One fan struggled to recognise her.

"I thought it was a picture of Mel C," they said about a snap from her new video shoot.

"You look insane hard work has certainly paid off," said another.

And another praised: "You've come a long way since X Factor."

Last year Lucy appeared on the morning chat show Lorraine where she discussed her weight loss.

She opened up about her transformation after ditching the 'three B’s' in her diet - beer, biscuits and bread.
