Lucy Meacock in tears during touching ITV Granada tribute to Tony Morris

Lucy Meacock became emotional during a touching tribute to Tony Morris on ITV's Granada Reports.

The regional TV news presenter died aged 57 after he was diagnosed with kidney cancer last year.

He passed at Bury Hospice on Saturday with his daughters, Natalie and Rebecca, at his side , said ITV.

Tony had presented on Granada Reports, ITV's regional news programme in the North West, for 17 years.

A special tribute to Tony aired on Granada Reports tonight, with guests offering their condolences.

Lucy said: "He was determined to keep working, it's incredible how long he carried on."

A segment was then shown of all of Tony's happiest memories on the show.

Lucy, his longtime co-host, then broke down in tears saying: "We were so privileged to sit with him in here.

Away from the newsroom, Tony was a diversity champion for ITV and was closely involved with organisations working with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds as a mentor.

He was also a supporter of several charities including the Anthony Walker Foundation set up in memory of the black teenager who was murdered in Merseyside in 2005.
