Young singer-songwriter Lucy Sugerman has been announced as the first youth ambassador for the National Folk Festival, Canberra's much-loved Easter-time tradition.
The festival's managing director Helen Roben said the youth ambassador's role included engaging and talking to young people about the festival.
"The 'national' provides such a positive and interesting experience for youth; it's fun, safe and gives
them an opportunity to discover and engage in the exciting world of folk," Helen said.
"Lucy Sugerman represents everything the festival is about. She is an incredible young artist who has been coming to the national every Easter for much of her life."
Eighten-year-old Lucy was honoured to take on the role, saying the festival was a big part of her childhood,
"I'm always excited for the National Folk Festival. It's not only a fun weekend to hang out with friends, it's an opportunity to discover new artists, connect with all walks of life and learn some new skills," she said.
"I've been lucky enough to experience all of those things growing up at the festival, and it's really special to help bring others that same experience. They don't call it five days in a perfect world for nothing."
Snapped up by record label, Universal Music after placing third in The Voice at just 15 years old, Lucy has previously been named the Australian National Busking Champion for two years running, Young Canberra Citizen of the Year and is currently nominated for the National Live Music Awards' Live Voice of the Year.
The 2020 National Folk Festival will be on from Thursday, April 9, to Monday, April 13, at Exhibition Park in Canberra.
