Lucy Bronze: England Women must start producing displays worthy of sell-out crowds

Lucy Bronze has called on England's women to start putting in displays deserving of sell-out crowds, as she targets returning to Wembley for the Euro 2021 final.

History was made at Wembley on Saturday as a record 77,768 attended the last-minute friendly defeat against Germany.

Crowds have swelled since the Lionesses reached a second consecutive World Cup semi-final last summer, with nearly 30,000 at Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium for last month’s game against Brazil.

Phil Neville’s side are working towards the home European Championships in 2021 and Bronze is aiming to be back at Wembley for the final.

She said: “Year by year women’s football grows. The momentum we got from the last two World Cups and the Euros means we now have that fanbase who want to come and watch us.

“I like to look towards the future and think that this will be something that can happen again. The [Euro] 2021 final is at Wembley and I would love to be playing in it and lifting the trophy.

“It [selling out stadiums] is something that is going to start happening on a regular basis. We have seen that with the past few home games we’ve had. For the game at Middlesbrough, we sold out the stadium, while we had a good crowd at Brighton before the World Cup.

“It is something we’re getting more used to. We’ve got to expect it and we just want to put on the performances and get the results our supporters deserve for coming out.”
