Lucozade: “Flow” (Starts at 00:06) – UK
Lucozade have concentrated much of their advertising spend on building an association between their products and sports stars striving to do their best – so it’s a bit of a departure to suggest the drink can give punters a but of everyday swagger as well. There are some lovely gags in this and a prat-fall worthy of Buster Keaton.

Old Navy: “First Day of School” (Starts at 01:08) – USA
Taking a break from her decorated role in US comedy Veep, Julia Louis-Dreyfus is instead commander-in-chief of her son’s wardrobe in this well-performed Old Navy commercial. While looking like the family lawyer is a source of pride for this overbearing mother, it’s an inconvenience Hunter could do without on his first day of school.

Currys PC World: “Dog” (Starts at 02:12) – UK
Poor Benji the pug. While mum’s out, dad is plotting to get a new laptop and has decided the dog is just what he needs for success. Concocting a liquid that can pass for pee, he spills a glass liberally over the keyboard of the family laptop and puts Benji on the table beside it. Cue the return of his wife, who is horrified at what she assumes is the mutt’s incontinence.

Thatchers: “Slow Motion” (Starts at 02:46) – UK
This beautifully made commercial for Thatchers claims that time almost comes to a standstill each week near the farm where the cider is made as everyone waits to discover if the latest batch is up to scratch. Some super-duper high-speed camera equipment has been used to capture the action but it’s the product shot that really catches your attention – has cider ever looked so good?

Lexus: “Slide” (Starts at 03:50) – UK
As fans of the Back to the Future series of films will know, there’s a special significance to this year when it comes to the invention of the hoverboard. The fantasy plaything appeared when Marty McFly is sent 30 years into the future in the second film … landing him squarely in 2015. The day itself will prompt an outbreak of nostalgia for the film and Lexus has got ahead of the game to cleverly hijack some of the attention.
