Lucky winner could be rocking around the Christmas tree thanks to Lanarkshire business couple

You could be rocking around the Christmas tree this year thanks to a Wishaw business.

Studio 1 tattoo artist and barbers in Netherton are offering a pristine vintage rocking horse as a fantastic prize in their Christmas raffle with proceeds going to the Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation.

Two years ago business owners Ashleigh and Paul Thompson used a similar rocking horse to raise money for the Wishaw-based charity which helps children with life limiting illnesses to achieve their dreams and meet their idols.

Ashleigh’s mum Evelyn McLare bought two of the magnificently carved rocking horses at auction.

One was kept in the family while the other was used in the raffle first time round, and then donated to the Royal Hospital for Children.

On that occasion parents were encouraged to bring their children into the tattooist and barber’s shop to have a go on the horse and buy a raffle ticket.

This year the horse is to be raffled off as the prize with all the proceeds going to the DreamMaker foundation.

Paul told Lanarkshire Live : “Ashleigh’s mum, bought them as a pair and kept one for the nephew. The first one was donated to the children’s hospital.

“This one didn’t need refurbished it’s in really good nick, it was real horse hair used to make these and that’s usually the first thing to go. It has all the original stirrups and saddle.

"She decided that this year after lockdown and everything being so glum she would donate this one as a prize to help Les’ charity. So that’s why we’re raffling it off for the Dreammaker. Tickets sold really well last time, but we realise things are a bit tighter now."

Again, children can pop into the shop and have a go on the horse.

Tickets for the raffle are priced at £10 and can be bought from Studio 1 at Innerleithen Drive or online via their Facebook or Instagram.

The draw will be made on December 23.

Ashleigh is also offering the opportunity for one lucky winner of a festive lottery bonus ball competition to receive a full day (six-hour) tattooing session for a £20 stake.
