Lucky UK winner scoops whopping £123m jackpot in EuroMillions lottery draw

A massive EuroMillions jackpot has been won by a ticket holder in the UK, it has been revealed.

The lucky winner scooped the £123m prize in Tuesday night's draw.

A spokesman for the National Lottery said the win put the ticket holder in third place among the biggest ever lottery wins in the UK.

Now players across the country are being urged to check their tickets to see if they can claim the life-changing prize.

Andy Carter, senior winners' adviser at The National Lottery, said: "This year has been truly incredible for UK EuroMillions players - with four jackpot winners so far on these shores.

"Patrick and Frances Connolly from Northern Ireland won the £114.9m EuroMillions jackpot in the draw on New Year's Day, Ade Goodchild banked £71m in March and an anonymous ticket holder bagged £35.2m in April."

The winning main EuroMillions numbers on Tuesday night were 25, 27, 39, 42 and 46. The Lucky star numbers were 11 and 12.

The current record holders for the biggest ever lottery win are Colin and Chris Weir, from Largs in North Ayrshire, Scotland, who won £161m in 2011.

Adrian and Gillian Bayford, from Suffolk, took home more than £148m in August 2012.

When Mr and Mrs Connolly, from County Armagh, won the EuroMillions jackpot on New Year's Day, they said their first priority was to write a list of family and friends to share their good fortune with.

Mrs Connolly, 52, said: "This is a massive sum of money and we want it to have a huge impact on the lives of other people we know and love as well as on our future too.

"This win gives us the chance to really make a difference for our family and friends.

"I always hoped we would win the lottery one day, but when we did, it would be just our luck that lots of others would win on the same day with the same numbers too - never in my wildest dreams did I think we would ever win almost £115m."

Mr Connolly, 54, said the win felt "unreal".

He added: "We really didn't know what to do or how to react and we didn't sleep a wink that night. We rang Camelot at 8am in the morning to verify the win.

"Then it started to dawn on us that it was true even though it still hasn't really sunk in."

The couple lived in Hartlepool for 25 years and said a community football club there would benefit from their win.
