Lucky punter wins over €4,300 from a crazy €20 bet on Liverpool comeback

A lucky punter was over €4,300 richer after eerily predicting the outcome of Liverpool's comeback against Barcelona.

Few would have given Jurgen Klopp’s men much hope of turning the tide after going 3-0 down after the first leg in the Nou Camp.

But one Limerick punter put a €20 bet on not only Liverpool to win 4-0 on the night but also for Divock Origi to score the first goal of the game.

The bet was 215/1 but when Origi found the net after just seven minutes it was all going to plan.

Second half goals followed for Georginio Wijnaldum (2) before Origi got his second to make it 4-0 in the 70th minute.

Liverpool were then able to hang on to reach the Champions League final and land one bettor a cool €4,320.

Boylesports' Lawrence Lyons said: “There were a few optimists out there who backed 4-0 at 50/1 but a huge pat on the back goes to one of our punters in Limerick who nailed the 4-0 comeback along with Origi scoring first at 215/1.

"It was a cracking bet and they have left us wondering if they could advise us on this weekend’s Lotto numbers too.”

This wasn't the only punter to profit from the miracle comeback with Ladbrokes reporting a host of bets on the 4-0 scoreline at 66/1.

Now bookies are fearing that the Reds will go all the way and win the Champions League.

Ladbrokes' Nicola McGeady said: “No matter what their odds are, patriotic Liverpool fans always keep the faith and get behind their boys and that decision more than paid off last night.

Hundreds of punters backed the Reds to qualify and predicted the correct score, while even more have backed Liverpool to lift the trophy since day one, when their price was as a big as 12/1.”

John Aldridge delighted to see 'rat' Luis Suarez on the losing side for Barcelona
