Lucky Geordie enjoys a sleepover with Mona Lisa in the Louvre - and the pics are incredible

What happens when the world's most famous museum becomes an Airbnb for one night?

Lucky Geordie student Daniela Molinari had the chance to find out after winning a very special sleepover at the Louvre in Paris.

A competition run by the Louvre and Airbnb saw the entire museum turned into a home for the night - with a living room in front of the iconic Mona Lisa, a dining room run by Venus of Milo and an intimate acoustic concert in Napoleon III’s lavish apartments.

But perhaps most special of all was the 'bedroom' - a mini-pyramid underneath the Louvre's famous glass pyramid.

Daniela, who studies conservation of easel paintings at Northumbria University , said: "It seemed like a contest that I would have liked to enter because I loved my first experience at the Louvre as a child, so I thought it couldn’t hurt to submit an application.

"It was an unexpected and unbelievable experience. I respect art because of what I study, but being able to experience it in such a way granted me the space to appreciate everything individually without crowds, which actually makes a huge difference. I also recognise the huge privilege that I had in attending."

The 26-year-old, from Heaton , and her boyfriend Adam Watson were greeted by an art historian, who took them on a bespoke tour like those previously given to the Obamas, Beyoncé and Jay Z.

Once they discovered the museum’s wonders, the couple enjoyed their home for the night in the presence of some truly legendary hosts - toasting the Mona Lisa with a cozy Renaissance inspired aperitif, while relaxing on a sumptuous Parisian lounge sofa, listening to the atmospheric sounds of French music on vinyl records.

Venus of Milo, the Greek goddess of love and beauty, then “hosted” an extravagant feast in a pop-up dining room.

And lastly, Daniela and Adam were treated to an intimate acoustic concert in Napoleon III’s lavish Apartments.

At the end of the evening, they retired to their bedroom under the Pyramid for a masterpiece of a sleepover.

Daniela said: "I got a fantastic sleep! It was a lot to take in through the evening, so I fell asleep within seconds.

"I think my favourite part was drinks with the Mona Lisa, and being able to talk to Sabine about art and conservation, and listen to the things she had to share about such an amazing piece of art. It was enthralling, and an honour to speak with her.

"I think going back to normal will be okay because I couldn’t get used to the press, but my standards for dinner dates have definitely gone up."
