Lucky escape for driver after tree falls on Edinburgh taxi amid gale force winds

A taxi driver had a lucky escape after a massive tree blew down on top of his car in Edinburgh.

Police were called to the scene on Cramond Road South in the Davidson’s Mains area of the capital at around 3.30pm on Friday.

Paramedics were also called but thankfully the black cab driver escaped any injury despite the large tree covering his vehicle.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 3.30pm on Friday, May 22, to a report of a tree falling on a taxi in Cramond Road South, Edinburgh.

“No one was injured but the road is still closed.”

High winds swept across Scotland throughout the day on Friday with gusts of up to 75mph.
