Lucky escape for driver after car flips in crash

A driver escaped without serious injury after crashing with another car and overturning.

Two Vauxhall cars smashed into each other on Tuesday afternoon, with one of the vehicles then flipping over and landing on its windscreen and wedged against a wall and road sign.

The crash happened at around 4.15pm on the junction of Hampton Road and Duke Street in Southport and the road outside the George pub remained closed for around three hours while the vehicles were removed and investigations carried out.

North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) sent two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and a senior clinician to the scene but all involved escaped without serious injury. Just one person, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital having suffered chest pains.

His injuries were not believed to be serious.

At the time of publication, no arrests had been made.
