A dad and his young son had a lucky escape after their car 'burst into flames' on the M60.
Police told how the driver noticed smoke coming from the vehicle, at about 1pm at junction five clockwise near the Princess Parkway.
After stopping on the hard shoulder the car 'burst into flames', officers said.
The man was with his 'young son' and both were able to escape.
Officers on the GMP Traffic account said the pair were taken home from the scene.
A Tweet from the account read: "The driver of this car noticed some smoke coming from the vehicle on the #M60.
"He pulled over and got out with his young son before it burst into flames.
"@manchesterfire on scene and #ZME02 transporting occupants home."
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters were called to the motorway at 1.07pm, with three fire engines in attendance.
