Car flips on M4 in heavy rain and lands on its roof

A driver has escaped without serious injury after a car overturned and landed on its roof in poor driving conditions.

The crash happened on the M4 near Bridgend on Thursday night.

According to police, the driver lost control of the car which then overturned and left the carriageway, landing on its roof by the side of the road.

Police said the driver was lucky to have only sustained “slight injuries”, and reminded motorists that they should always "use common sense", drive to the conditions and slow down in heavy rain.

The wet weather affected many parts of Wales on Thursday night and continued in some areas on Friday morning, with Traffic Wales warning drivers of “poor driving conditions” across most of the M4.

The Welsh Government’s traffic information service said on Friday morning: “Remember stopping distances double in wet weather as your tyres have less grip on the road.

“Reduce your speed and always leave extra space between you and the car in front. Remember the two second rule - when it pours double it to four.”
