Lucky direction for sea eels

Sea eels peek out from objects shaped like ehomaki sushi rolls at Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium in Sendai, ahead of setsubun, the last day of winter according to the traditional calendar. Eating ehomaki on setsubun, which falls on Feb. 3 this year, while facing a certain direction chosen every year is said to bring good luck. The ehomaki "houses" are about 50 centimeters long with a diameter of about 10 centimeters and were specially made for sea eels as they tend to stay in narrow places and holes. The display will last through Feb. 3.
