Lucky couple who used same Lotto number for 25 years finally win £1 million with lucky dip

A lucky couple from Nuneaton are planning their future in the Canary Islands after bagging £1 million on the lottery.

Martin Brandist, 54 and Debbie, 48, won the life-changing sum with a lucky dip on September 18.

Martin Brandist, 54, and Debbie Brandist, 48, from Nuneaton, Warwickshire, celebrated their Lotto win at Coombe Abbey, Coventry (PA)

After playing the National Lottery for 25 years with the same numbers, it was a free lucky dip ticket that saw the pair scoop the £1 million prize.

Mr Brandist said: “I've played the National Lottery since it started 25 years ago, with the same numbers made up of special birthdays and house numbers, but I never dreamt this would happen to us.”

Martin and Debbie are now planning to buy a lavish holiday home in Lanzarote (PA)

The winning ticket matched five main numbers and the bonus ball, leaving the pair dancing around their bedroom after checking their numbers the morning after.

Mr Brandist said: "In a daze, I dashed into the bedroom to ask Debbie to scan the ticket on her phone and unbelievably it came up with the same message, congratulating us.

"At that point I was just standing there in shock, my face went white and my mouth was wide open."

The pair publicly announced their staggering win just days after celebrating their first wedding anniversary.

Martin has since quit his job as an NHS manager and the couple now plan on spending their winnings on a lavish holiday home in Lanzarote.

The lucky pair will be spending New Year's at Disneyland Paris after their win (PA)

Mr Brandist said: "We can live our dream and go out there several times a year, perhaps even spend winters out there - and our relatives can use it too.

"Debbie has been learning the language for a while and one day we'd love to move to Lanzarote full time."

The lucky couple will also be celebrating New Year’s in style with a luxury trip to Disneyland Paris.

Martin has revealed plans to do volunteer work before looking for a new role in the future.

His wife Debbie is planning on continuing her role as a finance manager in the NHS.
