SURAT THANI: A southern boy whose video clip went viral during the marathon charity run by Artiwara "Toon Bodyslam" Kongmalai will receive a pair of sneakers worn by the rocker, as a gift.

Porames "Nong Mark" Poomporn became a national darling after his selfie video clip was widely shared on social media.

The clip showed him telling other fans not to ambush the rocker for selfies, and then has him shouting  "Phi Toon Soon", meaning the rocker had gone, leaving him no chance to take his own selfie with him.

The video was taken in Muang district on Nov 15 as Nong Mark, in a boy scout uniform, was waiting to give Toon 20 baht for the fund and take a selfie with him.

The 12-year-old boy impressed the singer, and he was given the chance to meet and take pictures with the Bodyslam front man two days later in Chaiya district. Toon also gave the name "Phi Toon Soon" to one of the four pairs of his running shoes put up for auction.

Chukiat Srithongsathien, chief executive of Teddy Auto Sale Co, won the bidding for the "Phi Toon Soon" sneakers, paying 1,234,567 baht during the auction.

He intends to give them to the boy as a gift, because Nong Mark set an example for other Toon admirers in that he did not obstruct the runner while taking a selfie.

Toon and Mr Chukiat will hand the running shoes over to Nong Mark on Sunday in Bangkok.

"I'm very happy. I never expected to get them because my family did not have money to buy them in the auction," the boy said on Thursday at Yuwasuksa School, where he is in Prathom 6 (Grade 6)

"After getting the shoes, I will talk to my parents and other people I respect about what I should do with them. The shoes are valuable to my mind," he added.

His teacher, Jiraporn Sottrayom, praised Nong Mark for his behaviour, self-discipline and respect for other people. "Nobody expected his clip would become famous on social media," she said.

Proceeds from the auctions of the four pairs of running shoes also went into the fund to help 11 state hospitals buy  essential equipment.

Toon's run from Betong district in southernmost Yala to Mae Sai district in Chiang Rai from November to December raised 1.3 billion baht to help the hospitals.
