'Lucky Arsenal' handed Premier League title warning after dramatic win over Wolves

Martin Keown has warned Arsenal can’t afford many performances like the one against Wolves if they want to be crowned Premier League champions.

The Gunners were far from their fluent best against Wolves on Saturday and required two own goals to overcome, staticially, the worst side in the division at the Emirates Stadium.

A week on from suffering a heartbreaking last minute defeat to Aston Villa, it appeared Arsenal were going to drop even more points in the title race in similar fashion.

Substitute Tolu Arokodare’s glancing header in the 90th minute put Wolves on course to pick up just their third Premier League point of the season.

However, much to the relief of Arsenal fans, Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera headed into his own net four minutes later to hand the home side all three points.

Speaking on TNT Sports after the game, Keown admitted his former club were lucky to get over the line, but feels it could be an important result in the title race.

“You don't want to be playing like that too often if you want to be champions,” Keown said. “I think the whole title was on this game because the commotion around, and the noise around.

“There is a lot of feeling - if you support Arsenal, there is a lot of feeling against the club.

“When [Gabriel] Jesus came off the bench, I thought was it going to be his night?

“Lucky Arsenal is back... It has been an unlucky Arsenal for me [recently].

“The world and his man wanted Arsenal to slip up here tonight. Credit to Wolves and their manager - they were transformational tonight in their performance.”

Arsenal’s dramatic victory moves them five and six points clear of Manchester City and Aston Villa respectively at the top of the Premier League table.

Though both sides will have the chance to cut the gap on Sunday as City travel to London to face Crystal Palace while Villa are too in the captial, facing West Ham.
