LUCKNOW: Vishwendra Kumar Singh, accused of murdering his wife who was a lab technician in Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI), was sent to jail on Wednesday.
He though claimed before the police that he was innocent and that his wife Varsha (28) had committed suicide. However, police said that the accused failed to give a convincing answer as to why he fled leaving the body of his wife in a car and abandoning his two-year-old son.
Singh was arrested from near the CDRI colony late on Tuesday night on the charges of dowry death, subjecting women to cruelty and under Dowry Prohibition Act. He was charged on the basis of an FIR lodged by his wife’s parents. Varsha was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Monday.
Officials said that after arrest, Singh, in his statement to the police, said that he was out on a stroll with his son on the campus premises. Later, he went upstairs and saw his wife Varsha hanging with a red dupatta tied around her neck. He then brought her down and took her to the doctor, who declared her brought dead. However, when Vishwendra was confronted on why he fled from the spot, he could not give a logical reply, police said. “He kept on repeating that he was numbed and shocked,” said an official privy to the probe.
ACP Aliganj, Syed Abbas Ali said that it appeared to be a case of murder. A medical opinion will also be taken.
