Lucknow University clinic to help kids, teens with addiction

LUCKNOW: Lucknow University (LU) will soon have a ‘Child and Adolescent Guidance Clinic’ to assist educational institutions and parents in addressing various kinds of addictions and behavioural disorders among children and teenagers.

Said to be a first-of-its-kind centre in any university in the state, the free clinic will be opened by LU’s social work department in association with non-government organisation Disha.

Head of LU’s social work department, Prof Anoop Kumar Bhartiya said that in the first phase all schools will be invited to send students who require attention. If the move is a success, colleges will be included. The clinic is expected to be ready by August 15.

Disha director Kumar Deepak said, “Children with any kind of addiction from drugs to alcohol and digital will be assisted. Professional psychiatrists and psychologists will be available for students either referred by schools or parents,” he added.
