Lucknow’s ophthalmologist Brigader Sanjay Kumar Mishra conducts 2nd successful cataract operation of President Droupadi Murmu

LUCKNOW: The second cataract operation of President of India Droupadi Murmu went successful on Sunday. A team of ophthalmologists from Indian army medical corps led by Lucknow hailed Brigadier Sanjay Kumar Mishra conducted surgery of President’s right eye.

The operation was done on Sunday morning at Army hospital research and referral Delhi Cantt. Earlier in October, the team had conducted surgery on her left eye.

Last year in covid pandemic, Brigadier Mishra and his team had successfully operated cataract of former commander-in-chief Ram Nath Kovind and first lady Savita Kovind. Satisfied with the surgery, the former president Kovind had issued a certificate of appreciation for Brigadier and his team.

Originally hailing from Mau district but settled in Lucknow, Mishra is among to be the highest decorated doctor of Indian armed forces medical services. He has been conferred with the Bar to Sena medal by the President in 2021 and it was his fourth medal. Earlier he was awarded Sena Medal and Bar to Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM).

He is currently head of the eye department of Army Hospital (R&R) Delhi. During his tenure at Command Hospital Lucknow, he established the retinal centre in 2018, catering to patients from various states.
