LUCKNOW: Students of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) affiliated with Student Federation of India (SFI) staged a protest on the university campus on Monday.
Upset with the decision of giving university’s land for setting up of ‘gaushala’ (cowshed) while ignoring demand for more laboratories, classrooms and hostel rooms, the students sat with placards in front of Ambedkar Bhawan that read: “Gaushala nahi prayogshala chahiye.”
“A central university where there are insufficient hostels and toilets for girls and boys, is giving away their land for opening a cowshed,” said SFI member MSc student Abhishek Kumar.
He alleged that a few days back university has passed an order to give one-acre University land for setting up a cowshed. “There is an acute shortage of classrooms for students in many departments in the university. For some courses, there are not enough laboratories,” said BA student Ishtiaq Ahmed.
“Just to please some political leaders, the university is giving away its land ,” said MBA student Anish.
University spokesperson Rachna Gangwar said she was not aware of any such development.
