Lucknow: Indian Medical Association fetes 45 doctors for their remarkable services

LUCKNOW: “When the common man feels uncomfortable wearing a face mask in hot and humid conditions, doctors donned almost suffocating and uncomfortable PPE kits for several hours at a stretch and provided treatment to Covid patients risking their own lives,” said Roshan Jacob, city Covid in charge, at an award ceremony on Wednesday.

Celebrating July 1 as National Doctor’s Day, the Lucknow branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) held a special award ceremony for the outstanding contribution of doctors as public service, especially during the pandemic.

Around 45 doctors were awarded on the day in the presence of Jacob and SGPGI director Prof RK Dhiman, who were both chief guests.

“The medical profession is a highly respectable one in the field of public service. And when doctors provide treatment to the public, they also add to the country’s development,” said Prof Dhiman.

The day is celebrated in the memory of Bharat Ratna Dr BC Roy and IMA Lucknow branch president Dr Rama Srivastava threw light on the work and life of Dr Roy for those attending the ceremony. The Lucknow Nursing Home Association also held an award ceremony for doctors on the day.
