Lucknow: ‘Giving Saturday’ to be a boon for the deprived

LUCKNOW: The Christmas this year will bring joy to hundreds of poor and deprived of the city when volunteers of the Association of International Doctors will play Santa Claus for them with the launch of their muchawaited drive ‘Giving Saturday’.

To be inaugurated by ADG security, BK Singh, at B-52, J Park, Mahanagar office of the association, the drive called ‘This Christmas, Be Someone’s Santa’ will see distribution of all kinds of goods of daily needs to the people who require it but can't buy it.

“We’re asking everybody to donate anything from old clothes to outdated medical equipment that might help the less fortunate,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretarygeneral of the Association of International Doctors.

“This small act of kindness may go a long way to help the needy,” he said. The drive will be organized every Saturday, starting the Christmas day. “Anybody can walk in on any Saturday and take the goods which are available -- clothes, stoles, shoes, medical equipment, chairs, wheelchairs, walkers...,” he said.

“But how many one take? We are developing an SOP for the distribution. Something like one good on one Aadhaar per week,” Dr Shukla said.
