Lucknow: Gambusia fish eggs released in pond

LUCKNOW: To curb the menace of dengue mosquitoes, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation, under its communicable disease control campaign, released 6,000 gambusia fish eggs in a pond near Hussainabad clock tower.

Nodal officer of national vector-borne diseases control programme and additional chief medical officer, Dr KP Tripathi, said the life cycle of mosquitoes was of 20-25 days.

“Mosquitoes stay in stagnant water for 9-10 days. Gambusia fish is our great ally in this work. It eats the larvae of mosquitoes in water itself,” he added. Vice-chairman, LMC, Rajnish Gupta said the project was the joint effort of several departments, including health depHrtment and LMC.

Health officer SK Rawat, said: “Gambusia fish work like combat weapon for effective control of mosquitoes.”
