LUCKNOW: Following reports of power disruptions in the city due to overloading, Lucknow electricity supply administration (LESA) kick started massive drive against power pilferage and lodged 36 FIRs in less than 24 hours in cis-Gomti area.
The drive helped in sudden reduction of overloading by 175 kw.
Speaking to TOI, Madhukar Verma, the chief engineer of cis-Gomti LESA said, “Several teams were formed and with the help of local police, we caught 36 power pilferage and recorded video as evidence to lodge FIR.”
The drive against power pilferage started on Thursday evening from Shashtri Nagar area of Aishabagh and Asiamau of Rajajipuram, where our teams caught a total 11 households who were using unauthorized power connection to power their homes. On Friday morning our teams caught power pilferage in Tilak Nagar, Kundri, Rakabganj, Pata nalla, Sohbatiabag, Rajabazaar and residential areas around KGMU.
Verma said, “After the action against power pilferage, our sub stations have reported drastic reduction in overloading. For instance, in Chowk area overloading is down by 100 kw while in Aishbagh 25 kw and Rajajipuram reported 50 kw less load. We will continue this drive until the overloading issue is not resolved, as power pilferage is the biggest cause of power disruption in the city, and ultimately it’s our regular bill paying consumer who has to suffer.”
All the accused were booked under Indian electricity act section 135.
On Saturday power supply will be disrupted in areas like Tilak Marg, Grandeur apartment, Sugarcane center and neighboring areas, as LESA will conduct maintenance work between the 33/11 KV sub station of Dalibagh to feeder 11 kv Tilak Marg.
