LUCKNOW: Top cop Mukul Goel accompanied by Lucknow police commissioner DK Thakur launched a surprise inspection of Hazratganj police station on Saturday afternoon and expressed displeasure over poor upkeep of records and lack of hygiene on the premises. Station house officer Shyam Babu Shukla, who’s currently hospitalised with dengue, was swiftly divested of charge and a panel set up to probe into the functioning of the city’s key kotwali.
The director general of police also inspected women’s helpdesk, cyber cell and mahila police station. He also checked the visitors’ register, took stock of progress in cases and randomly dialled visitors for feedback, while instructing women cops to expedite disposal of cases.
“I spoke to newly inducted women beat constables and found them unaware of their duties. Senior officers should brief them about their role and responsibilities,” said Goel.
Barring missing complaints, no other cases were found in the women helpdesk register. Women cops deployed for Mission Shakti phase 3 were asked to be on patrol and sensitively pursue cases of elderly women and girls. The in charge of mahila police station was instructed to ensure investigations were not unnecessarily delayed after mediation. At the cyber cell, DGP spoke to a complainant and took his feedback. Cell officials were asked to propagate the helpline number — 155260.
Goel went through registers on murder/ brawls, surprise inspection data, SHO’s monthly inspection record, women cops’ beat distribution data and other important documents. He instructed DCP, central zone, ADCP central zone and ACP Hazratganj to ensure qualitative disposal of cases.
