LUCKNOW: The number of novel coronavirus infection cases crossed 3 lakh-mark in the city on Friday, with 136 more people testing positive in the past 24 hours.
The first case was reported on March 11, 2020 when a Canada-based doctor was found positive for the infection.
Since then in 27 months, 3,00,067 infections have been officially recorded in the state capital.
As per the official data , 2,694 patients could not survive. However, if compensation given by the state government to families for death of a member due to Covid-19 is considered, the number of casualties is at least twice the recorded toll.
Recalling the experience of the two waves, CMS, Covid hospital RMLIMS, Prof Srikesh Singh said, "During the first wave, we could make out that the response to treatment and recovery was good and most of the patients who recovered from the disease had minimal or no post Covid sequelae or post Covid complications. However, during the second wave not just Covid patients increased exponentially, many showed post-Covid complications, which persist till date."
District surveillance officer Milind Vardhan said, "Rapid vaccination played an important role in controlling the third wave."
