LUCKNOW: As many as 200 girls were jabbed with Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine at the free inoculation and cervical cancer awareness camp organised at the Raj Bhavan on Monday. The event was organised ahead of International Women's Day celebration on Tuesday.
The vaccine was administered by a medical team from the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences to protect girls from cervical cancer. HPV is the most common viral infection of the reproductive tract, and it may cause cervical cancer, which is a type of cancer that occurs in the cells of the cervix.
Addressing women and girls at the event, governor Anandiben Patel said “Although we have medicine and vaccines to prevent different diseases, families should know about these (HPV) life-saving vaccines. They should disseminate this info to others.”
Informing about cervical cancer, the governor said, "Women are increasingly vulnerable to cervical cancer. With timely treatment, this cancer can be completely cured. If any girl or woman sees an unusual change in the cervix, take it seriously and go for doctor's advice”
