Lucknow: 18 dengue cases in a day, six critical patients in hospitals

LUCKNOW: Dengue cases continued to trickle in on Wednesday with 18 more persons testing positive in the past 24 hours.

The condition of six patients was serious and they had to be hospitalised.

These cases, which included six women and a 15-year-old boy, were reported from various parts of the city including Husainganj, Aliganj, Kaiserbagh, Chinhat, and Indiranagar.

Among critical cases, two were admitted at Lokbandhu Hospital and four at Balrampur Hospital.

These patients had to be hospitalised because their platelet count had dropped below 20,000 against the normal range of 150,000 to 450,000 per microlitre of blood.

Health officers said the condition of the six hospitalised patients was stable. The remaining patients were sent back after prescribing drugs , they added.

With this, September’s count rose to 292, of which 162 (56%) cases surfaced in the past 13 days.

Lack of sanitation and cleanliness after September 16 rains led to burgeoning mosquito population, resulting in spurt of the vector borne viral disease.

Though fficials claimed that anti-larvae spray and source reduction are running in full swing, on an average, 13 confirmed cases have been reported daily since September 16.

Many suspected patients of dengue have also been reported at various private hospitals in the city.
