Luckless rookie Ruaridh McConnochie again an injury doubt for England

Ruaridh McConnochie is a major doubt for England’s clash with Wales in Cardiff tomorrow.

The uncapped wing was picked to go to the World Cup despite missing last week’s Twickenham clash with a hip problem.

And now it seems his injury curse has struck again with coach Eddie Jones revealing that he “pulled up sore” in training today.

England are without a back-three replacement on the bench and Jack Nowell is still recovering from an ankle injury. So Anthony Watson or Jonny May could be called up to the squad.

Should his fate be confirmed McConnochie, who only switched from sevens to 15-a-side rugby last summer, will have just two games in which to get experience before England kick off their World Cup campaign against Tonga on September 22.

Jones’ men play a third warm-up game against Ireland at Twickenham tomorrow week before travelling to Newcastle on September 6 to take on Italy.
