Luckless Dan Leavy set to miss Six Nations after surgery on wrist fracture

Luckless flanker Dan Leavy is set to miss the Six Nations after undergoing surgery on a wrist fracture last week.

The Leinster back row will miss at least two months after undergoing the procedure to stabilise the bone as the squad prepare for their first game in a month against Montpellier.

Leavy hasn’t played for his country in more than three years, having been a revelation for Joe Schmidt’s side in the 2018 Grand Slam win.

The 27-year-old has played very little rugby as a result of a series of unfortunate injuries, beginning with ACL and PCL tears suffered playing for Leinster in March 2019.

That injury kept him out of the World Cup in Japan that autumn but another knee surgery in 2020 derailed his progress further.

Leavy managed four appearances, two from the bench, in the run-up to Christmas but will another frustrating spell on the sidelines after suffering the injury in training last week.

Leinster have also confirmed two players are in isolation due to Covid-19, one as a close contact, while Dave Kearney, Conor O’Brien and Michael Milne remain out.
