'Luckiest person in the world': Miracle escape for driver after truck's wheel slices car apart on M6

Dramatic images of a car and its baby seat destroyed by an HGV wheel have been released by police who described the driver as “luckiest person in the world”.

Lancashire Road Police shared the images that showed a sedan with its roof ripped off by a tyre, which had crashed through the windscreen and become lodged in the baby carrier in the back seat.

They described the driver as the “luckiest person in the world” not only because he escaped with minor injuries but because his young son had asked to come with him in the car and he had said no.

“The driver's young son wanted to come out with Dad. Thankfully he was unable to take him, but it doesn't bear thinking about what would have happened had his son been in this car seat,” police said alongside a picture of the destroyed baby carrier.

The wheel had become detached from an HGV on the M6 at junction 28 and crossed the central barrier before striking the car that had been travelling in the opposite direction.

“The driver of this car is the luckiest person in the world right now,” police said in a separate post.

“This tyre detached from an HGV on the M6 at jct28, crossed the central barrier & struck an oncoming vehicle.

“How they got it to the shoulder and got out is beyond us.

"Thankfully minor injuries.”
