Lucien Favre has already sent a message to Crystal Palace players ahead of manager appointment

Crystal Palace look set to appoint Lucien Favre as their next manager following Roy Hodgson's departure, and the 63-year-old has already outlined what he will be expecting from the club and his squad.

Favre has been in talks with the club over the last week or so, with reports stating that he has now agreed to take over as manager subject to securing a work permit for the United Kingdom - a process that could be difficult.

The manager has had impressive spells at Borussia Monchengladbach, Nice and Borussia Dortmund over the last decade, securing unlikely positions in Europe at Monchengladbach and Nice.

Favre picked up a reputation for a progressive style of play while placing trust in young players, something Palace are understandably keen to capitalise on with their youth teams performing well over the last year and the academy sealing a Category One status.

Fans keen to see what Favre can deliver have already been shown exactly what he needs from a club and the squad he works with, as the manager outlined his philosophy and demands when speaking on 'Inside Borussia Dortmund' - a behind the scenes documentary from Amazon similar to their All or Nothing series and Palace's own 'When Eagles Dare' series released in June.

"To start with, yes of course, I want to play football," Favre said in the documentary.

"My philosophy was: we want to win the game. We have to master the game.

"You need to have the ball. You need great technique. You also need match intelligence. That's clear.

"You need time. You need money to do that, but you also need physical potential.

"Everyone says mental strength is very important. But to have mental strength on the pitch, you need players who, before all else, are able to run.

"Because saying: 'He has a super mentality, but he can't run back and forth' - that's no use. And if you have a player on the team who does nothing defensively, you don't have a team.

"Nowadays you have to be able to play hurt. They can suffer, really suffer. This is... you asked me about my philosophy.

"To play football, but... You can have a team, a real team. And then you can wage war if you have that."
