Lucid’s first midsize electric SUVs will be called Cosmos and Earth, the company confirmed during its Investor Day 2026 event in New York City on Thursday. A third model based on the same platform is also in the works, but its name has not been revealed yet.
The Lucid Cosmos and Earth are the California-based startup’s ticket to the big league, so it has to do things right. After delivering the outstanding but rather expensive Air sedan and Gravity SUV, both of which are larger vehicles, the new mid-size crossovers will go after a completely different audience, considering their estimated starting price of around $50,000.
Lucid said it plans to start production of the Cosmos at its plant in Saudi Arabia by the end of this year. While that plant will mainly cater to the Middle East, Europe, and other global markets, initial units out of that factory will head to North America as well. Within about 6 to 12 months after production begins, the automaker also aims to start local production of the midsize SUV here in the U.S. at its Arizona facility. The Earth will begin to roll out about a year after the Cosmos, Lucid said.

We have known for a while that Lucid's next phase rested on a midsize platform that would underpin mutiple mass-market vehicles, but Lucid shared plenty of new details about the platform at Thursday's event. Officials said the Cosmos and Earth EVs will use an 800-volt battery system with a next-generation centralized architecture that supports bidirectional charging. A new drive unit dubbed “Atlas” will power the company’s new crossovers, with Lucid boasting a 23% reduction in weight and a 30% reduction in parts compared to the current-generation motors.
A definitive range figure and battery size are not out yet, but Lucid officials said that the Cosmos would only need 69 kilowatt-hours of battery capacity to go 300 miles on a full charge. That's all thanks to the work put in by designers and engineers to make the EV as aerodynamic as possible, with a drag coefficient of just 0.22. Lucid's chief engineer said that example battery size doesn't necessarily mean the Cosmos will have exactly 300 miles, and that it could end up with more.
Mechanical door handles are also part of the equation, rather than the go-to electrically controlled door handles made popular by Tesla, Rivian, and even Lucid.

What’s more, the two mid-size Lucid crossovers will ditch the center touchscreen that’s currently found in the Air sedan and Gravity SUV. Instead, a single ultra-wide display will sit atop the dashboard, providing the driver and passengers with all the necessary information. The company shared a rendering of what that will look like.
According to Lucid, the Cosmos will be an urban, on-road, performance-oriented vehicle, while the Earth leans a little more toward the suburban, any-road driver. Meanwhile, the third model in the midsize category, whose name has yet to be revealed, will be the most adventure-ready model.
We still don't know exactly what the vehicles will look like, as the company hasn't shared final designs. But Lucid showed three images of the models under sheets that give a sense of their shapes and proportions.

The company didn’t say which part of the new display will be touch-sensitive, but it did say it will be divided into four zones. Starting from the left, the screen will display energy-related information, navigation, entertainment, and other tidbits, such as the weather forecast.
Lucid added that an artificial intelligence-powered assistant with a natural voice will be at the center of the user experience, which might explain the lack of a center touchscreen. Whether the company delivers a usable system that’s neither annoying nor nagging remains to be seen.

[Correction: An earlier version of this story suggested that the Lucid Cosmos would have a range exceeding 300 miles. Lucid has not revealed range targets for its new crossovers, only disclosing the battery size needed to achieve a 300-mile range.
