Luciano Spalletti: Juventus name surprise new manager after dismal start to Serie A season

Juventus have named Luciano Spalletti as their new manager after Igor Tudor was sacked.

The Old Lady find themselves in seventh in the Serie A after a slow start to the campaign, where they have only won four of their opening nine games.

Tudor was hired back in March this year, replacing Thiago Motta, and he led the club back into the top four, where they sealed qualification for the Champions League.

At the end of the season, he signed a new contract that would see him stay at the Allianz Stadium until 2028.

However, after their recent 1-0 loss at Lazio, Juve slipped to eight games without a win in all competitions, and Tudor was sent packing.

Now, they have turned to former Napoli and Italy head coach Spalletti, with the 66-year-old signing a deal until the end of the current campaign.

Spalletti won the Italian top flight with Napoli back in 2023 before succeeding Roberto Mancini heading up the national side.

However, he was sacked back in the summer after Norway beat Italy in World Cup qualifying, and the Azzurri are on the brink of missing out on a third consecutive World Cup.

Massimo Brambilla took over the reins on an interim basis in the week, overseeing a 3-1 victory over Udinese, but Juve still trail league leaders Napoli by six points.

They are also winless in their first three Champions League games, having drawn twice and lost once.
