Lucas Torreira's agent makes transfer admission as he speaks out on interest in Arsenal man

Arsenal had a very busy summer transfer window, both in terms of incoming and outgoings.

Plenty of players departed the club, particularly on loan, with Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira one of them.

The former Sampdoria man endured a difficult loan spell for Atletico Madrid last season, where he received minimal game time under Diego Simeone's stewardship.

Torreira will hope to rekindle his career at Fiorentina where he will spend at least one year with the Italian club.

Interestingly, Torreira's agent Pablo Bentancur has recently stated that there were a fair few clubs fighting to acquire the diminutive midfielder's signature, with Napoli one of them.

But in the end, Fiorentina director of football Daniele Pradè proved to be the deciding factor in the final decision making.

"Interest of Napoli? Yes, there were the Azzurri as well as other clubs," Bentancur told CalcioNapoli24.

"However, we wanted a project and we knew Daniele Pradè from the time at Sampdoria."

"They made Torreira feel immediately important.”

In terms of life at Arsenal, Torreira has not really settled in England and it was well known that the player was feeling homesick.

Initially, the 25-year-old showed plenty of defensive qualities in breaking up play and acting as a shield in front of the backline.

But what became very evident was that in the two seasons he played regular minutes for the north Londoners, his performance levels dropped towards the second half of each campaign.

Clearly, Mikel Arteta doesn't see a place for Torreira in his squad, and one would expect that his permanent future lies elsewhere.
