Lucas Torreira's agent makes admission about midfielder's Arsenal future amid AC Milan links

The summer transfer window wasn't only about incomings for Arsenal.

In addition to the departures of Petr Cech, Aaron Ramsey, David Ospina, Alex Iwobi and Danny Welbeck among others, there was also talk of Lucas Torreira leaving after only one season in England.

The Uruguay international was linked with a move to AC Milan following the appointment of Marco Giampaolo - his manager at Sampdoria.

Football.london  reported in June that despite Torreira being open and honest about his preference for life in Italy over England, he had not told the club hierarchy that he wanted to leave.

Even if he had, the Gunners had absolutely no intention of selling the midfielder.

As revealed by Torreira's agent, Pablo Bentancur.

"There was the possibility," he told TMW when asked if  Milan wanted to sign Torreira.

"Giampaolo is in the heart of Lucas. But Arsenal said they had no intention of selling the boy. Lucas is fine, the company is happy with him. This will be the year of consecration. With the Arsenal shirt.

"Milan is Milan, it will always be an important team, even if today it has some economic problems."

Speaking to FourFourTwo last month, Torreira said exactly what Arsenal fans would have wanted to hear amid links to Milan.

"It's been a pretty big change for me, coming from Sampdoria," Torreira said.

"Genoa is a much smaller city than London, but every week I feel more comfortable and learn new things about the way of life.

"When I arrived, we saw traditional landmarks like Buckingham Palace, trying to get my bearings.

"Now it feels more like home."

Arsenal player ratings vs Burnley

Following the arrival of Dani Ceballos as well as the promotion of Joe Willock to the first-team, Torreira has more competition for places in the Arsenal midfield this season.

He made his first appearance of the campaign in the 2-1 win over Burnley at the weekend, although that's more to do with his late return to pre-season training after Copa America duty rather than being pushed down in the pecking order under head coach Unai Emery.
