Lucas Torreira transfer latest: AC Milan interest and what the Arsenal midfielder has said

Lucas Torreira's future at Arsenal looks set to be one of the main talking points as the summer transfer window unfolds.

The midfielder moved to the Emirates last summer from Sampdoria for a fee of £26million, and instantly established himself as a key man in Unai Emery's side.

However Torreira's form dipped as he dropped in and out of the Gunners starting XI, leading to speculation that his future may lie away from the Emirates Stadium.

Here's what we know about Torreira's future in north London.

What Lucas Torreira has said

Asked about life in the UK, he said: "I don't know if there are many things that I enjoy. I think it was better in Italy. England is a totally different world, a very large country.

"The language [barrier] has cost me, to be able to relate with my peers and with the people. It's very difficult when you can't have dialogue.

"And so is the climate. You go out in the morning and it is cloudy, you arrive late to your home and it is cloudy.

"It is strange a little bit, the sun, the more of us that we are here and we are accustomed to having always or almost always the sun."

What Lucas Torreira's agent has said

Comments from Torreira's agent, Pablo Bentancur, will certainly stir the pot as he stated it would be 'special' if Giampoalo contacted Torreira - although he also stated that he was not aware of Milan's interest.

"I know nothing of AC Milan's interest. I only heard about it in the press. No one contacted me," he told CalcioMercato.

"Would Giampaolo's call be something special for Lucas? Yes, clearly."

Will Arsenal sell?

The good news for Gunners fans is that, as reported by football.london , Arsenal are determined to keep hold of Torreria during this window and do not consider the interest from the Italian club to be a big worry yet.

Reports claim that Arsenal value Torriera at around €50m, but realistically only a figure much higher than that would convince the Gunners to cash in on their star midfielder.

Unai Emery sees Torreira as a key part of the development currently undergoing at Arsenal, meaning that he will be reluctant to sell just one year into his career at the Emirates Stadium.

If no club, including AC Milan, produce the sort of money that will tempt the Arsenal hierarchy to cash in then it is still very much on the cards that Lucas Torreria will be running the midfield at the Emirates Stadium again come the new season.
