Lucas Torreira believes the lack of native speakers in the Arsenal squad had a detrimental impact on his time at the Emirates Stadium.
Torreira joined the Gunners back in 2018 from Italian side Sampdoria, and played way over 50 times for the North London club before moving to Atletico Madrid late in the summer transfer window.
Whilst it's only a loan deal at the Wanda Metropolitano, the Uruguay international's start with the side has been very promising and he may be looking for a permanent move to Diego Simeone's side.
Uruguay internationals Luis Suarez and Jose Gimenez also both play at Atletico which has helped Torreira settle into life with his new club.
Speaking to Spanish news outlet AS, the 24-year-old has explained how the fellow native speakers at the Madrid-based side have helped him with a smooth start to life in La Liga.
"This affects me a lot (the amount of native speakers in the squad)," the on-loan Arsenal midfielder admitted.
"I have two Uruguayan colleagues, a Uruguayan teacher, an Argentine coaching staff and language is an important factor, too.
"I was in England for two years and that issue cost me, beyond that I was taking classes.
"I know that I came to Atletico Madrid, a club with a lot of hierarchy that fights important things, that also influenced the decision I made."
In all competitions for Atleti, Torreira has played seven times and scored his first goal for the club in the 3-1 win over Osasuna on October 31.
The Uruguayan midfielder has made 41 appearances for Arsenal in the Premier League in total, but with just over half (22) coming from the start.
When Torreira made the move to the Spanish capital, the Gunners managed to secure the signing of Thomas Partey, who went in the opposite direction.
