Lucas Torreira provides injury update after being taken off on stretcher at Portsmouth

Lucas Torreira says he's "fine" after being taken off on a stretcher in the first half of Arsenal's FA Cup fifth round tie at Portsmouth.

The Uruguayan midfielder appeared to be in agony following a robust challenge from Pompey's James Bolton, and after a lengthy delay he was eventually replaced by Dani Ceballos.

There were initial fears that Torreira had suffered a serious injury, but he has now allayed those fears in quotes carried by ESPN in his native Uruguay.

They report that Torreira told his father: "It (the ankle) twisted, but I can move it. I'm fine."

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta also offered an update on Torreira after the Gunners' 2-0 win.

"Lucas was very sore and is in a brace," he told BT Sport .

"He will be assessed in a few days and then we will know more."

Arteta went on to praise his young side as they won courtesy of goals from Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Eddie Nketiah.

"It's a difficult place to come but I have faith in these kids," he said.

"They always respond and I always knew they would do that. They have to learn from the difficult moments and manage them but they have the talent and desire and look how hard they work.

"The clean sheet is really important and we defended set-pieces much better.

"We have pace in a few players up front. Reiss [Nelson] is a special player and can eliminate players one on one. He's been out for a while but he's back now and he showed what he's capable of doing.

"I'm really enjoying working with this group of players,. It's a process. I know everything has to be today or yesterday but in football it doesn't happen like this. I'm seeing a lot of things I'm happy with but there is a lot of room to improve."
