Lucas Torreira 'no longer at ease' with Arsenal amid transfer interest from Serie A and La Liga

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is said to be "no longer at ease" with his situation at the Emirates Stadium, amid rumours of interest from Spanish and Italian clubs.

The 23-year-old made the move to London in 2018 and became a solid fixture in the Arsenal first team as the Gunners fought to reach the Europa League final, where they were defeated by London rivals Chelsea.

But this season, he has moved down the pecking order with manager Unai Emery preferring Matteo Guendouzi, Joe Willock and loan signing Dani Ceballos in the midfield roles ahead of the Uruguayan, as well as Granit Xhaka earlier in the season.

Rumours about Torreira's future have circulated for some time, with the Gunners said to have beaten competition from Carlo Ancelotti's Napoli side to seal his signing from Sampdoria.

Since then, numerous teams have been linked as he has fallen down the pecking order, and Torreira's agent Pablo Bentancur has confirmed that there are a host of clubs tracking his situation.

However, he also admitted that in discussions with Arsenal chief Raul Sanllehi, it was made clear that Torreira was not allowed to leave and that he was hoping for more game time soon.

"I must say that the change of role has penalised him sharply," Bentacur told Calciomercato .

"He is no longer at ease and we hope that things can change.

"We have no problem with Arsenal but only words of thanks. Arsenal has allowed Lucas to compete in the Premier League, he has always shown great confidence.

"Clearly the interest for Torreira are all right, especially by Spanish clubs, but I have never sat down with any club to talk about his transfer.

"This is because of the great respect we have for the Gunners and general manager Raul Sanllehi.

"I don't want to name the teams out of respect, but I can tell you that Atletico [Madrid] tried to take Lucas from Sampdoria two years ago.

"There was an interest [from AC Milan] as well as other clubs [this summer]. But we got together with the Gunners' general manager, Raul Sanllehi, and he immediately told us that for Arsenal, Torreira was not for sale - an adamant position.

"I also have to say that Milan did not present a real concrete offer, perhaps because they knew [Arsenal's position on Torreira].

"Lucas follows Italian football with great interest. I can't rule out anything. In Italy he grew up as a player and as a man. He brings to heart his experiences at Pescara and Sampdora."
