Lucas Torreira hands Arsenal and Mikel Arteta a massive fitness boost ahead of Man City trip

Lucas Torreira is back in training in what is a huge boost for Arsenal and head coach Mikel Arteta.

The midfielder last featured for the Gunners in their 2-0 win over Portsmouth in an FA Cup fifth-round tie at Fratton Park at the beginning of March, although he didn't last long.

Stretchered off in the first-half with an ankle problem, it was feared that Torreira's season was over as a result.

Football is back – but how will it work?

However, the enforced almost three-month suspension of football in England has worked in the Uruguay international's favour as he's in line to feature in Arsenal's season run-in.

A return to training for Torreira has been in the pipeline for a while now as his progress has been documented across various social media channels.

Firstly, a tweet from the Gunners last month which showed a video of Torreria running again read: "Things we love to see. @LTorreira's back out running again."

In response, Torreira posted a video of his own on Twitter, which featured a compilation of his season so far.

Then last week, he issued a positive update about the condition of his fitness levels as he wrote "I'm back. #LT11 #Gunners. "

And now the comeback is complete as in a behind the scenes video of Arsenal's training session at London Colney, Torreira took part in a passing and shooting drill along with Nicolas Pepe and Zech Medley.

It remains to be seen if Torreira is deemed fit enough for Arsenal's trip to Manchester City later this month.

The midfielder hasn't played a competitive match since early March, although the same can be said for his teammates because of football's suspension.

With that said, he still has to build up his fitness levels as he's a week or two behind the rest of the squad. But the good news is that he will be available to Arteta as the Gunners look to finish what has been a difficult season in style.
