Lucas Torreira breaks his silence after Arsenal exit and sends message to Thomas Partey

Lucas Torriera has spoken out for the first time since joining Atletico Madrid on loan from Arsenal.

The Uruguay international had fallen out of favour under manager Mikel Arteta since picking up an injury against Portsmouth in March and failed to make a single matchday squad this season.

His move to the La Liga side was officially confirmed on transfer deadline day and will link up with compatriot Luis Suarez at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

Premier League clubs spend over £1bn despite coronavirus pandemic

In his first interview as an Atletico player, Torreira has expressed his delight with the loan move.

"I'm happy. The truth is that after a bit of suffering because it happened at the last hours for the transfer period to end, but the important thing is that the signing was given," he told Estadiodeportivo.

"Today I am a new Atlético de Madrid player.

"I am super happy.

"That took a long time, but as I said before, everything went very well and I was able to sign."

Of course, Torreira can be regarded as a replacement for Thomas Partey who completed his £45m transfer to Arsenal on the same day.

And in a classy message, Torreira has told the Ghana international what to expect at the Emirates Stadium.

"There he is going to meet a club where they treated me very well and that is the most important thing," he added.
