Lucas Radebe hits back at old Leeds United stereotype ahead of Premier League return

Lucas Radebe has shot down talk of the dirty Leeds United tag ahead of the new season.

With the Whites returning to the Premier League, many pundits and fans have been wheeling out the dirty Leeds cliche ahead of the new season.

Yet, speaking on Five Live, Whites legend Radebe hit back at suggestions that Marcelo Bielsa's side are a dirty one.

The former Leeds defender said that could not be further from the case.

Radebe also backed the Whites to have an exciting campaign.

Pointing to their ability last season to win games when not playing well, the South African said Bielsa's side have picked up an important habit that should serve them well on their return to the top flight.

He said: "There's no more dirty Leeds anymore, I don't think we deserve that.

"With the class that we have at the moment, Marcelo Bielsa has come in with his own style.

"A different manager, he's turned things around at the club.

"Those players that looked ordinary, he's turned them into Premier League players.

"They play such great football, a great formation and I think we'll see them being consistent in winning games.

"Even when they weren't playing well they were getting great results last season.

"So I think, with the players they have, people like Kalvin Phillips, Patrick Bamford, it's going to be exciting.

"I'm really looking forward to that."

The Whites begin their Premier League campaign with a trip to defending champions Liverpool on Saturday evening.
